ERASMUS EXCHANGE PROGRAM
Istanbul Commerce
University gives
importance to foreign exchange programs for students to gain experience
in international education and also carries out the exchange of students
and faculty members within the framework of Erasmus program. Each year the students of Istanbul
Commerce University
study at the partner universities in Europe
for one or two terms and
also the students coming from these universities are educated in our
university. Exchange agreements have been signed with 25 reputable universities in 15
European countries. We have been sending eligible students to the
partner schools in Europe since 2005-2006 acade- mic year,
and, also, we have had foreign students at our university since then. Exchange students participating
in the program do not pay any tuition
fees to the partner
university.
Erasmus students receive an Erasmus grant for the period they spend in Europe. Erasmus grant is
the allowance given to students participating in the Erasmus exchange program to support their cost
of living. Except for ÖSYM scholarship students, students participating in the exchange program pay the registration fee to Istanbul Commerce University. Travel, health insurance and visa fees are paid by the student. Since the national grant budget is insufficient,
this allowance cannot be allocated to every
student participating in the Erasmus exchange program.
However, it is also possible to study abroad as an
Erasmus student without receiving the
allowance.
Undergraduate students
can apply at the beginning of the second
term of the second year, and may go abroad as an exchange student during the fall and spring
semesters of the third year. Third-year students can apply at the
beginning of the second term and can be admitted in the fall semester of their
fourth year.
Selection of the students
participating in the program is carried out by the Erasmus Office and the
Erasmus Student Exchange Commission. While evaluating
the applications the committee takes two
criteria into consideration according to weighted scoring system :
·
Academic
Achievement Average
·
English
Proficiency Exam
Duration of
the Erasmus student exchange program varies
from 4 to 10 months.
European credit transfer system (ECTS) tries to define the courses in terms of work load they give to students. A student takes
a minimum of 30 ECTS credit course during
a semester .The courses of the exchange
program are determined in advance.
The credits of the courses successfully completed
abroad are transferred to Istanbul Commerce University. These courses are transferred as credits
(pass) not as grades. The courses transferred as 'Pass' will not affect the GPA. One term exchange students must take 30 ECTS lessons and 2/3 of these
courses must be completed successfully.
